چکیده

Background: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect five different surface treatments on mechanical property and antimicrobial three desiccated glass ionomer cements. Materials Methods: In experimental study, 300 rectangular blocks restorative materials were fabricated using an aluminum mold, Group I (n = 100) Micron bioactive, II GC Fuji IX GP Extra, III bioglass R. These stored 100% humidity for 24 h then placed air desiccate another h. groups further divided into two major 50) both (Flexural) testing. subgroups 10) based medias used treatment (senquelNaF, MI varnish, chlorhex plus, kedodent mouthwash, [control]). Flexural strength (FS) measured universal testing machine. Fracture compared one‑way analysis variance Tukey’s post hoc test with P ≤ 0.05 considered statistically significant. Antimicrobial carried out by covering specimens a suspension Streptococcus mutans followed incubation later washed, vortex mixed, serially diluted, plated. Ccolony‑forming unit/ml calculated after 3 days incubation. Data analyzed Kruskal–Wallis Mann–Whitney U nonparametric test, Results: bioactive varnish significantly exhibited highest FS. Surface plus no growth S. mutans. Extra reduction other group. Conclusion: material improved their while among showed better property, whereas property. Key Words: Desiccation, flexural strength, glass‑ionomer cements

In-vitro Comparison of the Antimicrobial Properties of Glass Ionomer Cements with Zinc Phosphate Cements

White spot lesions are observed in nearly 50% of patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Long-lasting antibacterial properties of orthodontic cements can reduce this phenomenon. The aim of this research was to compare antimicrobial activity of three commercial glass ionomer cements with three commercial zinc phosphate cements, over time, against streptococcus mutans and candida albicans...

Effects of N-Vinylcaprolactam Containing Polyacids and Zirconia on Mechanical Properties of Commercial Glass Ionomer Cements

This study aimed to investigate the impact of N-vinylcaprolactam (NVC) and Nano-sized yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), separately and simultaneously, on the mechanical properties of the commercial glass ionomer cements (GICs). Methods: The NVC is able to ameliorate the mechanical and surface properties of glass ionomers; however, its effect hasn’t been investigated in conjunc...

Glass ionomer cements.

Glass ionomer cements have been used in pediatric restorative dentistry for 20 years. Their usefulness in pediatric restorative dentistry is preferential relative to other materials because of their fluoride release, chemical adhesion to tooth structure, and availability to use in a variety of clinical scenarios. This paper reviews the use of glass ionomer materials in pediatric restorative den...

Improving mechanical properties of glass ionomer cements with fluorhydroxyapatite nanoparticles

Glass ionomer cements show great potential as low cost, minimally invasive dental restorative materials. However, their use is limited by relatively poor mechanical properties, especially fracture toughness. One possibility for improving their fracture toughness is through the addition of fluorhydroxyapatite nanoparticles, which resemble the crystals found in tooth enamel. Hydroxyapatite and fl...
